Nepal Entry Visa: The Essential Guide
Last Updated: December 29, 2025
Most climbers obtain their visa through the "Visa on Arrival" process at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. It is a simple and efficient process, but being prepared will save you hours after a long flight.
1. Visa Requirements Before you board your flight, ensure you have the following ready:
- Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay.
- Blank Pages: At least one full blank page is required for the visa sticker.
- Passport Photos: While digital kiosks are available at the airport, carrying 2 physical passport-sized photos is a reliable backup.
- Proof of Expedition: A copy of your Expedition Booking Confirmation from ACE.
2. Visa Fees (Subject to Change) Fees are payable in major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP), but USD Cash is the fastest and most preferred method at the airport.
| Duration | Fee (USD) | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 15 days | $30 | Short Treks |
| 30 days | $50 | Standard Expeditions |
| 90 days | $125 | 8000m Peak Expeditions |
3. The "On-Arrival" Process
- Online Pre-Arrival Form: Complete the Official Online Visa Form within 15 days of your arrival. Print the confirmation barcode.
- Payment: Upon landing, proceed to the "Fee Collection" counter before immigration and pay your fee based on your expedition length.
- Immigration: Present your barcode, payment receipt, and passport to the immigration officer for the visa sticker.
4. Special Permits for Climbers Important: Your Entry Visa is separate from your Climbing Permit.
- ACE handles all Peak Permits and National Park Entry Fees through the Department of Tourism.
- We will require your passport copy 30 days in advance to process these documents so they are ready the moment you arrive in Kathmandu.
